River Rhine receives discharges from various pollution sources. Mutagenicity of the river increases significantly with metabolic activation in AMES test and comet assays pointing at the contribution of mutagenic aromatic amines. Aromatic amines is a class of compounds that many of them are suspected/known mutagens.
