The Electronic Program for Organic Chemistry Homework (EPOCH) is a Web-based exercise and quiz program designed specifically for instructors and students of organic chemistry. Students draw structures in response to posed questions. EPOCH offers feedback specific to the student's response that explains why a response is correct or incorrect, guiding the student to the correct answer. The structural characteristics of a student's answer determine the feedback that EPOCH provides. Program architecture, course incorporation, and students' reception of EPOCH are all discussed.
